And before anyone says it, yes I used the search function. But there's just so much information lol. ![]() My Windows laptop crapped out on me. So time to upgrade! Figured it's time to move on to a MacBook since I had a few issues once in a while when I moved on to a new controller. I use Serato DJ with my NS7II. Would a MacBook Air work fine for my setup or should I just go for the MBP? Or what specs would be ideal? Thanks in advance for any recommendations! Ok lets be honest here, The MacBook Pro is called Pro for a reason. It is speced out for people who need a high performance computer to run software for professional creative industries like Audio or Fllm. If all you are planning on doing is using serato (which doesn't need that much power) and browsing the web then don't bother dropping the extra money on a pro. Only reason most people buy the pro is so they can be like 'look at me I bought the pro because I'm dj rich as fuck'. I would recommend buying the base 11' model because well and truly you don't need to see that much seeing as you are using a controller and a good quality external SSD. Hope this clears up all of the bullshit. Latency is a function of CPU power and load (among other things like chipset), and soundcard. Not hard drive. Soundcard usually being the biggest factor. If your CPU is under heavy load, you might see spikes and get the occasional audio glitch, but if you have i5/i7 probably not. The only thing I can think of is that loading tracks in traktor on a slow hard drive seems to lock the interface up and spike CPU (and once in a great while, cause an audio glitch as a result). Using SSD would eliminate that entirely. But really for the most part a modern laptop shouldn't even have this issue with or without SSD because the i5/i7 line are pretty solid. Especially if you have quad core. But regardless, you should get an SSD if you can. The quicker loading is really helpful to get things up and running ASAP. I've had MacBook Airs for a few years now for iOS development and portable device for visiting clients (I managed small business networks for a living.) And I DJ with Traktor on it. Go to an Apple store, try out the different models, and buy the one that feels right. I almost upgraded to the MBP last year but decided that I loved the weight of the Air much more. Either one will be perfectly fine for DJing. You could even pick up an older or refurbished one to save some money (check the Apple refurbished store.) I'd stay away from the new Macbook with only one p. With the introduction of onto the music scene, DJs are now able carry their entire production studio and mixer with them wherever they go, and regardless of the operating system you use, a multitude of laptops exists that can fit your style. Three factors go into laptop design, and all of them affect how well the DJ laptop you purchase works, with these factors including the processor, hard drive, and display. Cost represents another factor that plays an important part in determining the laptop you end up purchasing, and you can find a large selection of the top five leading laptop models for DJs in local electronic stores or on. Best Laptops for DJs When shopping for the best DJ laptop for you, certain models stand out above the rest.
